IEBC Fake Certificate Arrest Kenya: 5 Officials Nabbed in Fraud Crackdown
The IEBC fake certificate arrest in Kenya has shaken the public sector. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested five government officials for allegedly using forged academic documents to secure jobs and promotions. This fake documentation led to a loss of millions in public funds.
Among those arrested is a senior Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officer. She reportedly used a fake Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Masinde Muliro University. The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court charged her with forgery and submitting false documents. She was released on a cash bail of Ksh200,000.
Another suspect from the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) used a fake Bachelor of Arts in Social Work degree from the University of Nairobi. He fraudulently earned Ksh16.4 million. He is also part of the IEBC fake certificate arrest Kenya probe.
Meanwhile, a former KeRRA Deputy Director used two forged degrees—from JKUAT and Kenya Methodist University—to keep her position. She reportedly received Ksh40.3 million in salaries.
The scandal doesn’t end there. A former KMTC driver forged a KCSE certificate to get hired in 2018. He was arrested and released on Ksh50,000 bail.
In another case, a driver at Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) allegedly used a fake KCSE certificate to earn Ksh6.7 million. He was arrested on June 10 and released on Ksh100,000 bail.
The EACC confirmed that it will also begin civil recovery proceedings to reclaim all fraudulently obtained funds. This case proves the rising concern over document forgery in Kenya’s public institutions and strengthens the need for proper academic verification.
